Running a barbershop isn’t easy. Between giving your clients an amazing service, ensuring your staff are motivated and happy, as well as all of the admin tasks that seem to steal every spare minute you have, it’s safe to say that there is a lot to keep on top of. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
Eat your frog first
Mark Twain once said that if the first thing you do in the morning is eat a live frog, you can go through the rest of the day knowing the worst is behind you. Whilst we are not advocates for an amphibian breakfast, we do think this analogy works well as a prioritisation and productivity method.The eat the frog strategy calls on you to identify your hardest task for that day, and get it out of the way early. That way, once it is finished you can focus on crossing off easier to-do list tasks later in the day when you are more tired and less motivated.
Pareto Principle (80/20 Rule)
The Pareto Principle states that for many outcomes, 80% of consequences come from 20% of actions. This roughly translates to the fact that the majority of successes for your business come from 20% of the tasks/ activities that you complete. If you can work out what areas are those most responsible for your growth, you can double down on what works and maximise your growth.
The Right tools for the job
In a pinch, a screwdriver can hammer in a nail, but it would be no match for a skilled carpenter with a hammer. The same applies to your barbershop business, and the tools you use to run it.
